University Offers Summer Pre-College Youth Programs for Middle/High School Students in Subjects Ranging from Music to Writing to Business Practices

—New this summer, Middle School Experience prepares students for success by offering the option to stay on campus and experience college life

Learn to spin records like a real DJ, write novels like a published writer, or sell your business idea like a contestant on Shark Tank. These are just a few of approximately 100 courses and workshops offered during William Paterson University’s Summer Youth Programs to be held on the campus in Wayne from June 29 to August 7.

This summer new programs include Destination Science for students age 5 to 11 and Sport Programs for middle and high school students which include: Cross Country, LETs TRI (Athlon), Soccer Clinic, Swimming Lessons, and Tennis and Wrestling.

Also new this summer, Middle School Resident Experience will help prepare the middle school student (students entering 6th grade in September 2015) for success, with the option to stay on campus and experience college life.

Registrations submitted before June 1 receive a 10 percent discount. The Pre-College Program for High School Students immerses students entering grades 9 to 12 in a unique university summer experience from July 6 to July 31. Participants may choose from more than 40 exciting programs, and stay in the residence halls or commute. The Pre-College Program workshops give students a sampling of different career possibilities in order to discover their abilities and talents, and explore the career paths that best fit them. Courses include Songwriting and Music Industry Camp; Digital Photography; Future Teacher Academy; Academic Writing for College; Genetic Engineering, CSI, and Bioethics; Astronomy; and 3D Printing Scaled Organic Models.

The following scholarships will be available for high school students: Aim High Academy sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education; John F. Villani Guitar in Classical, Jazz and Rock Scholarship; PSE&G Summer of Science; and 22nd Annual Jazz Workshop Geraldine R. Dodge Scholarship.

William Paterson University offers college credit courses to qualified high school students during the summer 2015 at a reduced rate. To qualify, students must meet the following requirements: Overall GPA of B, and a letter of recommendation from their guidance counselor or principal confirming the student’s ability to handle college-level work.  Courses also include these options: experience residential life on the university campus, study with college student tutors, and take SAT Prep workshops.

William Paterson University offers college credit courses to qualified high school students during the Middle School Workshops for students entering grades 6 to 8 in September 2015 are designed to stimulate pre-teen and teen imaginations and creativity.

The Summer Life on Campus Program is a unique summer day camp for students entering grades 5 to 9 in September 2015. A typical week includes well-supervised enrichment and academic workshops, indoor and outdoor activities using University facilities, and a weekly field trip. This is an ideal program for working parents who prefer to place their child in a safe, well-managed environment where both academic and recreational activities are offered. The program is scheduled to run Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., from June 29 to August 7.
