The Gandhian Forum for Peace and Justice at William Paterson University will present a lecture by Norman Finkelstein, author of “What Gandhi Says About Nonviolence, Resistance and Courage,” on Thursday, October 4, 2012 on the University’s campus in Wayne. The lecture, based on the book, will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Cheng Library Auditorium. Admission is free.
Finkelstein is the author of eight other books, including: “Knowing Too Much: Why the American Jewish Romance with Israel is Coming to an End,” “Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History,” and “Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict.” He received his doctorate from the Department of Politics at Princeton University and has used Gandhi’s writings to explore the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
William Paterson University’s Gandhian Forum for Peace and Justice seeks to engage high school, college, and university students and teachers in innovative and practical ideas, actions, and programs that promote peace and justice through cooperative engagement, dialogue, and respect for opposing views and opinions. Previous lecturers have included Doug Henwood, editor and publisher of Left Business Observer; Jo Comerford, executive director of the National Priorities Project; Chris Hedges, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist; Rabbi Michael Lerner, editor of Tikkun; and Aftab Seth, India’s former ambassador to Japan, Vietnam and Greece.
The program is co-sponsored by the Political Science Department; Asian Studies Program; Cotsakos College of Business, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Office of the Provost.
