INFORMATION FOR
Science, business, art and music are among the workshops on tap this summer at William Paterson University in a series of one-week summer camps designed to let high school and middle school students explore their interests in July and August on the campus in Wayne.
Participants can explore a variety of career paths through workshops that are informative and fun. The Pre-College Programs at William Paterson foster a successful transition to college for high school students by providing them with the opportunity to test out various career alternatives, appreciate growth through self-discovery and experience life on a college campus. For instance, a course such as “Gear-Up for College” and “Academic Writing for College” ensures that high school students will be prepared to tackle their college classes.
“Computer Game Design and Programming,” “Web Design and Flash Animation,” and “Computer Forensics” offer the opportunity to examine technology and its related career applications. Also available this summer are three “Science Tracks” that feature courses in geology, physics, and aquatic, plant and microbial ecology.
A “Business Track” includes workshops in investing, entrepreneurship, and persuasive communication and sales. Students will sit in on a real trading floor on campus with live feeds from global stock markets, understand the dynamics of running their own business and become skilled at selling by learning proven sales techniques.
The “Arts and Communication Track” will instruct students in acting and video production, stage and screen script-writing, academic writing for college, guitar in classical, jazz and rock, and public speaking and debate. This summer features our 19th Annual Jazz Workshop, which offers classes in improvisation and arranging. The jazz workshop features world-renowned artists in nightly clinics and concerts and it also includes an evening at a legendary New York jazz club.
