William Paterson University Theatre to Present “Mauritius” from October 20 to 25

Mauritius, a play by Theresa Rebeck, will be performed at William Paterson University in Wayne from October 20 to 25 in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus.

Mauritius is a drama about two estranged half-sisters. After their mother’s death, the sisters discover a book of rare stamps that may include the crown jewel for collectors. One sister attempts to cash in on the windfall; the other sister resists for sentimental reasons. However, the sale becomes dangerous when three sleazy collectors are willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.

The play will be directed by Elizabeth Stroppel, William Paterson University associate professor of theatre. Stroppel is also the producer of University Theatre and coordinator of the theatre and comedy program. Stroppel holds a doctorate from University of Texas at Austin.

The cast includes Kennedy Smith of Englewood, John Hargrove of Passaic, Ashley Barett of Woodland Park, Helory Laurent of Willingboro and Elwin Cuevas of Brooklyn, NJ.

MauritIus will be performed October 20 TO 24 at 7 p.m., October 24 at 2 p.m. and October 25 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 general and $10 for students, senior citizens and William Paterson alumni, faculty and staff.
