William Paterson University Observes African Heritage Month in February

“Strength of a Black Woman,” is this year’s theme of William Paterson University’s annual observance of African Heritage Month. Programs scheduled honor the experiences of African American women. Most events are free and open to the public. 

An opening ceremony, featuring a performance by African Global Arts, will be held on Tuesday, February 1 at 12:30 p.m. in the University’s Multipurpose Room. A variety of traditional African, African American and Caribbean foods will be served.
 
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and the University’s Pi Iota chapter, present HERstory, a modern story of a black woman’s journey to success, on Tuesday, February 1 at 7 p.m. in University Commons room 168.

On Wednesday, February 2, 2011, Sarah O’Connor, a former executive with New York City radio station Power 105.1, a hip-hop and R&B station, will present a lecture and discussion about the challenges women in powerful positions face based on her experience in the entertainment industry. Refreshments will be served. The program will be held in the University’s Ballroom C at 7 p.m.
