The People Who Power WP: Johanna Prado

Every month during the academic year, we will spotlight a different member of the WP faculty or staff who plays a powerful role in student success.

Name: Johanna Prado

Title: Director, Center for Degree Completion and Adult Learning (DCAL)

Years at WP: 18

Tell us about yourself: Born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey of Dominican parents, I am the youngest of five girls. I attended TCNJ, where I received my bachelor's degree in criminology & justice studies and Spanish, with a minor in Italian.  Immediately after graduation, I secured a graduate assistantship with William Paterson University, where I earned my master's degree in public policy.

Describe your role on campus: I am responsible for the project management of WP Online courses, issuing academic credit to adult learners for prior learning (which may have occurred on the job, through the military, or via professional certifications), and creating community among our adult learners. I bring the WP campus resources to our adult learners through a hi-flex model; offering virtual, hybrid, and in-person events in collaboration with the Cheng Library, Career Development, and Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center, among others.

A defining moment at WP: Working with colleagues, who are also my mentors, helping to shape me into the professional I am today. Thank you all!

Favorite part about your job: Seeing our WP Online students at Commencement. They have never met me in person, but they feel comfortable enough to come up to me and give me a big hug and thank me for helping them get to this point.

Fun fact: I am a proud sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority.

Finish this sentence: "WP is a powerhouse community of care." Here, we care about the students we serve. We listen to students' feedback to enhance their WP experience.
