Caña Dulce y Caña Brava to Present Traditional Music of Mexico at William Paterson University on October 24

Mexican-based ensemble Caña Dulce y Caña Brava will perform the traditional music of Veracruz, Mexico at William Paterson University in Wayne on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Admission is free. The concert is part of the University’s 2023 Latinidad Celebration.

Caña Dulce y Caña Brava presents the music, poetry, dance, and traditional attire of Veracruz, Mexico, interpreted by artists who are beneficiaries of the jarocho culture and noteworthy performers with years of experience on both national and international stages.

The group seeks to take the audience on a voyage through multiple rhythms, accompanied by traditional string instruments such as the harp and the jarana; the zapateado, a percussive dance; and the projection of visual effects. The band’s colorful wardrobe embellishes their musicality. Offering an assortment of colors, textures and images to diverse and multi-generational audiences, the ensemble is defined by an original aesthetic concept that unites the traditional with the vanguard in a contemporary stage performance.

Formed in 2007, the ensemble has collaborated with well-known artists such as Lila Downs, Geo Meneses, María Inés Ochoa, and La Santa Cecilia and has represented Mexico in forums and festivals worldwide in Latin America, the United States, Canada, Africa, Asia and Europe.
