INFORMATION FOR
Pio, WP’s energetic mascot, is a bear with characteristics that reflect William Paterson University’s values and the attributes of many of our students: gritty, confident, persevering, fun-loving, and the first in the family to attend college. Pio made a debut at Homecoming 2021, giving high-fives and hugs, posing for selfies, dancing with tailgating students and alumni, and rallying spectators from the sidelines. When not busy boosting Pioneer spirit at NCAA and club sports events, Pio is making appearances at everything from Admissions Open Houses to campus activities and events, including Commencement.
The University’s first spirit song also premiered during Homecoming 2021 to enhance Pioneer Pride on campus. Commissioned and funded by the Alumni Association, the spirit song highlights distinctive aspects of William Paterson University, including its widely embraced Will. Power. brand messaging, strong sense of community and social justice, as well as leadership and perseverance.
