Hello and welcome to MGT 305-81 - MIS

Greetings. I am Dr. Leonard Presby, your online professor for Management Information Systems. I will explain the requirements so you can get much out of the course. We "meet" by logging on to Blackboard, a shell-program that will serve as our vehicle for class delivery. It is password protected. Announcements and assignments will be from Blackboard. How Do You Get to the Online Course? Point your web browser to: http://bb.wpunj.edu/, (our Blackboard website) Press the Login button to access to the Username and Password page Enter your username, ( your WPUNJ e-mail username). Password is your 855- number. Orientation & Visit to Campus (Strongly recommended): We optionally meet face-to-face 1 time, for an hour, during the semester on Thursday September 2 at 8:30 am in Valley room1021. I will discuss the course, Blackboard and material you will be doing during the semester. Example of a typical day: Each week you will have multiple assignments. There are some 30 assignments for the semester. Point value varies from minus 5 to positive 10 points. For some assignments, you will work individually; for others, you will work with a group that I will assign via Blackboard. Groups may change. Assignments are to sent to me only from the "Assignments section" from Blackboard . (For Group assignments: one submission comes in from the whole group. Everyone, who contributed, gets the same grade. This is why everyone should cooperate and communicate. Please use "Group Discussion" in blackboard so I can see the progress being made in the Group Projects. ) To get full credit, you need to send all assignments through bb, only, by selecting "Assignments". You will see an ! after the assignment is sent in. Only after I grade the assignment, the ! will change to a grade. All assignments are due by 11:30pm the day it appears on the calendar. Points are deducted if it is late or you have more than 2 spelling errors. (Please do not attempt to do all the assignments at the end of the semester. You will not pass. I may modify assignments through the semester and give you sufficient time to complete them. You will have notice on bb of any change). No Instant Messenger language, please. Expectations of Performance: You will be judged by the timeliness and completeness of all assignments Log on to Blackboard, each day, check for new "Announcements" regarding assignments. The assigned book is necessary to complete most assignments. Some assignments are found at the website ( mhhe.com/haag). Correspond through "Discussion Group" section of Bb when you need to touch base concerning your Group Projects. Remember there are 4 of them and each one counts 7 points. Policiy review: *All assignments need to be submitted on time, and use of Group Discussion is required. *All assignments are due on the day after posted by 11:30 P.M. Late assignments are penalized at the rate of 1 grade per day (e.g. 1 day late=A to A-, 2 days late A to B+, etc.). I take points off if your spelling is unacceptable. This means if there are more than two typos, credit is lost. *Independent and cooperative projects will be required. *The University trusts each student to maintain high standards of honesty and ethical behavior. Assignments submitted in fulfillment of course requirements must be in the student's own work. All assignments, except those designated as "group", are meant to be individual efforts. Group efforts are meant to be equal efforts of ALL group members. ? Assignments will be graded on form, which includes, spelling, punctuation and grammar. Many of the documents in Blackboard may be in Word 2008. Remember that .docx is the file extension for Word 2008 regardless of the operating system you are using. Students who have Office 2008 on their computers will be able to open a file with a .docx extension. Students who don't have Office 2008 can download free compatibility software at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101686761033.aspx Feedback: I will try to respond by email to inquiries within 24 hours, except for weekends (48 hours). E-mail me if you have a question or if you would like to schedule an in-person meeting. Log-in Procedures: Each time you log in to BlackBoard, please first check : Announcements (for up to the minute announcements) and Assignments, and Calendar. That's it. Remember to check BlackBoard daily for any announcements/changes and submit the assigments on time (see the calendar), so you will get full credit. All assignments are due the class the day they are posted on the syllabus calendar. 1. *moduleK You are requested to define your business specialization - listing job titles, classes offered by the University , and from the student CD, the IT skills one needs to acquire. How to Access Blackboard:
To log on to Bb point your web browser to http://bb.wpunj.edu and click the Login button in the upper left. Then enter your username and password in the spaces provided and click login again -- you'll find your course Bb sites listed on the right.

Some things to be aware of as you work with Blackboard:

  1. You probably won't find all your courses listed; the only ones that will appear are those that have been activated by the professor teaching the course. Professors who don't use Blackboard will not activate their courses.
  2. Your username is comprised of your lastname and firstinitial, usually appended with a numeral. If you don't know your WPUNJ system username password you can use the Username lookup link at http://bb.wpunj.edu , or go to it directly at: http://www.wpunj.edu/username
  3. If you are already logged in to the WPUNJ system through WPConnect you won't have to re-enter your username and password -- just click the first login button.
  4. Blackboard documentation can be found in two places: at Bb Home, http://bb.wpunj.edu, before one logs in, and in the Blackboard Support tab after one has logged on.
  5. You can always obtain Bb help by using the Problem Report form at http://bb.wpunj.edu , or by going to it directly at: https://liberty.wpunj.edu/bb/support-center/ .

WPUNJ Student Email:
To access WPUNJ Student Email point your web browser to http://wpconnect.wpunj.edu, enter your username and password, then select the Mail tab. If you are logging on for the first time you'll be asked to set your time zone and language.

Blackboard courses will use student email; third-party email addresses will not work on Bb

Good luck and have fun in the course! Leonard Presby
