Recreation Facilities



"The SpARC" - Sports and Recreation Center
The SpARC is the proud home for indoor Pioneer varsity athletics and intramural sports. It is regularly open 7 days a week for students, faculty, and staff during the academic year. It features a gymnasium with three full-sized basketball courts that are available for basketball but can also be used by students for volleyball, badminton, indoor soccer, and a variety of other activities upon request (students can simply ask at the front desk for nets, goals, etc. to be setup for their use). The building has a racquetball/handball court for which equipment can borrowed at the front desk at no cost in order for students to play.

The fitness facilities feature a full weight room and an auxiliary weight room equipped with free weights- dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, etc.- and machine strength equipment by Body Master, Cybex and Paramount machines, Gravitron. The cardio room offers treadmills, rowers, stair climbers, elliptical cross trainers, spin and recumbent bikes, and more, along with six large screen televisions for viewing during a workout. The multipurpose room with is an open exercise space loaded with dance mirrors, heavy punching bag, speed bag, exercise mats, BOSU and stability balls.

The building provides two fully equipped women's and men's general locker rooms with showers, saunas, whirlpools, and lockers available for daily use. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to use the locker rooms when visiting the facility.

In support of the health and safety of the SpARC users and staff, users are asked to thoroughly clean their equipment before and after using with the provided cleaning supplies. The facility's staff also regularly cleans the equipment and facility, including daily disinfectant fogging.



OFC - Overlook Fitness Center
OFC is the newest fitness facility and is located near Overlook South, adjacent to the site where Overlook North was previously located. This smaller fitness center is convenient walk for resident students but welcomes all WP students. The facility offers a wide array cardio equipment and machine [selectorized] weight equipment. It houses a beautiful multi-purpose studio for yoga and group fitness classes or individual workouts. The studio space is can be requested to be reserved by contacting Associate Director of Recreation, Erin Stelma.

In the rear of OFC, there is a large outdoor patio with tables and an overhang to protect it from the weather making it the perfect spot for outdoor stretching, reading, studying, and hanging out with friends. In addition, a small lounge area inside the building is available for recreating .



Sand Volleyball Court
The sand volleyball court is located near the Sports and Recreation Center and behind the Pioneer Soccer Park.  The full-size court with sand pit is available for student use when weather permits and features a small section of bleachers for watching games.  The intramural program has traditionally held a one day intramural sand volleyball tournament with BBQ prizes.  Volleyballs can checked out at the front desk of the Sports and Recreation Center.


Open Swim at Wightman Pool
The University's indoor pool is located in the Wightman Gym complex.  Recreation utilizes the pool for a number of aquatic programs throughout the year however, the most popular is the open swim program.  Open swim is free and gives current students, faculty, and staff a chance to enjoy the pool. The open swim schedule varies by the time of the year but the hours can be found under the "Hours/Schedule" tab on the Recreation website. Locker rooms are available at the pool for changing and showering.
