Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Library will be taking additional precautions in the Fall 2020 semester to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. Please review the following to learn more about these changes.

Library Access

The Library will reopen on Monday, August 24th, 2020. Access will be limited to current WP students, staff and faculty. Library hours for the fall semester are: 8:00am-7:00pm Monday to Friday 11:00am-7:00pm Saturday & Sunday.

The Library follows university policy requiring that all users wear face coverings and practice social distancing whenever possible.

Cleaning supplies are provided, and all users are strongly encouraged to clean work surfaces and computing surfaces before and after use.

Course Reserves

Faculty will be able to place course material on Course Reserve during the Fall 2020 semester, although we encourage you to explore electronic alternatives when available. Student access to print materials will be very different from past semesters, and any physical print materials placed on Course Reserve will have additional processing time.

To provide safe, easy to access and cost-effective materials for students, we encourage faculty to:

  • Select alternate course materials available electronically in consultation with your liaison librarian
  • Adopt open educational resources (OER) textbooks that are freely available and allow for re-use and modification

All print materials will be quarantined between use, which will create increased delays to borrowing. Please be aware of and communicate the following changes to your students:

  • Print materials and media will have a 3-day quarantine period after each use
  • Test kits or items with multiple pieces will have a 5-day quarantine period after each use

Research Support

Support for students, staff, and faculty continues to be our priority, and we are here to help with a variety of tools, whether we are able to meet in person, or not.

Borrowing & Returns

Due dates for books and materials borrowed before the university closure are being extended until the library reopens. There will be no fines or late fees during this period. Anyone with items checked out should keep those items and not return them until the library reopens. Please feel free to contact Lending Services with any questions concerning your account.

Interlibrary Loan

Cheng Library Interlibrary Loan (ILL) had extended due dates for all Interlibrary Loan items. However, with the start of the fall semester, please drop off these items or contact the department to arrange their return if you are not on campus.

Article and book chapter requests will be processed. The delivery of print materials is operational, however it is strongly suggested that you explore the table of contents to verify whether a chapter or two would suffice. This will facilitate quicker delivery of requests. CDs/DVDs may be difficult to obtain. Please contact or call 973-720-2567 during operating hours for specific ILL questions.

Article & Chapter Copy Service

The Periodicals department will continue to scan a chapter or two from any current book in the Cheng Library collection, not on reserve. If this is all that you need, choose Article Copy under New Copy Request in the Interlibrary Loan portal.

Hold for Pickup & Curbside Pickup

Current WP students, staff, and faculty may request curbside pick up of books and media through the Library website.

How to place a request:

  • Go to our Library Catalog Search page https://www.wpunj.edu/library/.
  • Select Books & Media, and search for your book or media item.
  • Click on the title to retrieve more information about your item.
  • Library materials that are available for Curbside service will be available for request under the “Get It” section.
    • To place a request, log in to My Account with your WP credentials and press the 'Hold For Pick-Up' link under the "Get It" request holds on available items
    • Fill out the form and hit the Send Request button.
  • You will receive an email notifying you that your item is available and someone from the Lending Services will contact you to schedule your pickup.
  • Bring your William Paterson ID to present to staff. Items will be checked out to you before you arrive.
Please allow a minimum of 24 hours for processing and bring a bag if you are picking up multiple items.
