Early Career of William Paterson

A. Van Doren Honeyman - Early Career of Governor William Paterson

First published in 1912, this small volume was for many years considered the definitive work on the career of William Paterson. It was superseded by two full-length political studies: Leonard Rosenberg’s Political Career of William Paterson (1967) and John O’Connor’s William Paterson, Lawyer and Statesman, 1745-1806 (1979) which have remained the standard biographies. [Available in the Cheng Library] While both books benefited from fifty years of subsequent scholarship, Honeyman’s work was still used for details about Paterson’s early life, a tribute to the author’s research and judgments.
