Reformatting your PowerPoint slides for 16:9 High Definition IRT’s Media Services is upgrading classrooms to HD going from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 aspect ratio to accommodate the new standards. PowerPoint has a default aspect ratio of 4:3, but most newer monitors and projectors have a ratio of 16:9 or 16:10. 16:9 aspect ratio is used by HDTV screens and beamers. Common resolutions for these monitors and screens are 1280×720 and 1920×1080. Therefore, when viewing a PowerPoint presentation, you’ll notice black, vertical bars on either side of your presentation. This is not very aesthetic and these directions will get rid of these letterbox bars for you. One can easily change a PowerPoint slide to fit the new aspect ratio. Go to the Design tab, then click on Page Setup, then Slide sized for and choose 16:9.
