Federal Direct Stafford Loans Active Acceptance of Direct Loans William Paterson University participates in the Active Acceptance of Federal Direct Stafford Loans. This means that students MUST sign into WP Connect to ACCEPT their Federal Direct Student Loans. You will be presented with 3 options: 1. Accept Full Awards, 2. Decline Awards, or 3. Step 1 Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Entrance Counseling helps you understand your rights and responsibilities as student loan borrower and provides the terms and conditions associated with your loan(s). Step 2 Direct Loan Promissory Note. The Direct Loan Promissory Note is used to make one or more loans for one or more academic years (up to 10 years). If you are a student borrower under the Direct Loan Program attending a school that is authorized and chooses to make multiple loans under the same loan for more than one academic year, you will only sign one note. It will be used for all of your loans over multiple academic years. For example, if you enroll in college as a freshman and borrow under the Direct Loan Program for all years of study, you may be able to borrow this note for all the years.
