Each candidate must complete this application and include documentation supporting the application. An outline of prerequisites are on the back of this form. Students must also complete and turn in a Technical Standards for Admission form and a Standard Physical Examination Medical History form with the application.

Application Procedures

  • Applications are due Wednesday, November 4, 2020 by 11:00 am for spring semester admission to the Professional Preparation Phase.
  • Applications are to be submitted to:

  • This application is to be completed by all students who wish to be admitted to the Professional Preparation Phase. Admission to the Professional Preparation Phase cannot be gained without applying for admission and completing all admission requirements.
  • Prerequisites for Professional Preparation Phase admission (Program Director use only)
    • Completed Athletic Training Program Application turned in to the Program Director by the posted deadline
    • 24 credit hours completed for admission
    • Overall 2.5 grade point average at WP
    • Grade of C- or better in BIO 1120 Anatomy and Physiology I
    • Grade of C- or better in BIO 1130 Anatomy and Physiology II
    • Grade of C- or better in ATEP 1500 Introduction to Athletic Training
    • Successful completion of ATEP 2000 Sports Emergency Care
    • Successful completion of ATEP 2400 Prevention and Care of Injury and Illness in Athletic Training taken at WPUNJ in the fall semester of application
    • Current certification in Professional Rescuer CPR with AED
    • Current certification in Advanced First Aid or equivalent
    • Interview with ATEP Admission and Retention Committee
    • Successful completion of Athletic Training Program Standard Physical Exam
    • Completed Technical Standards for Admission form turned in with the application and required materials
    • Completed Student-Athlete/Athletic Training Student Policy form (if applicable)
    • NATA student membership number to the Program Director before the first day of spring semester classes

Students will be informed in writing of admission decisions after the fall semester grades are available.

Candidates who meet the entrance requirements will be accepted into the Professional Preparation Phase as program space allows. All candidates must meet the same criteria for admission. Admission to the Professional Preparation Phase will be limited to those eligible candidates possessing the highest GPA and greatest potential to succeed as athletic trainers as determined by the Athletic Training Program Admissions and Retention Committee after the committee reviews each candidate’s application and conducts interviews.

In preparation for transition to the MS in AT Program, the last secondary admissions process will be Fall 2020, no students will be accepted to the BS in AT program after the Fall of 2020. Students who are not admitted to the program during the Fall of 2020 will not have an opportunity to reapply to the BS in AT, but can change their major to the BS in Sports Medicine, which will prepare students to apply into the MS in AT program, with the first cohort commencing in the Summer of 2023.
