The Career Development Center team is excited for you to take your next step along your journey from student to professional. As a new Alumni you still have access to all of our Career Center Services including:

  • Your student Handshake Account  to search for P/t and F/t opportunities. All resumes uploaded will be reviewed by a member of our staff. 
  • Schedule an appointment through Handshake with a career counselor to discuss career goals, job search, interview skills, graduate school. 
  • View and attend job fairs, networking events, webinars, and employer information sessions on Handshake 

What is your First Destination After Graduation? 

All Seniors are encouraged to complete your First Destination Graduate Survey on Handshake Learn more about our First Destination Survey and how the information collected in the survey is used to help help us improve and enhance our programming, recruitment efforts, and the services offered by the Career Development Center. By completing the survey you will see trending jobs for your major, where your classmates are working, and top employers of our graduates.

Jumpstart Your Career Journey

We have put together a checklist of career actions that can help you jumpstart journey and achieve your career goals.  Our recommendation is to complete one career-building action a day. Take and it one step at a time and remember our team is here to help you along the way. For assistance is taking your first-step reach out to our office to schedule an appointment. 

Career Building Checklist 

  • Join Handshake and fill out your profile 
  • Create & update your LinkedIn profile. Not sure where to start visit our LinkedIn Resource Hub
  • Update your resume and upload it to Handshake for Career Center Critique 
  • Attend Career Center Programs and Employer Hosted Events on Handshake
  • Join the WP Alumni and Career Development Center Groups on LinkedIn 
  • Obtain a professional headshot for your LinkedIn account 
  • Connect with faculty, staff, & your fellow Pioneers on LinkedIn... Build your network
  • Finalize your resume utilizing the Career Development Center, Career Toolbox, Resumania, etc.
  • Add a few keywords to your resume that you have noticed in job descriptions
  • Assemble your references of individuals who can speak on your behalf as a professional
  • Research common interview questions and draft your answers to them. Use our Career Toolbox to get started! 
  • Conduct mock interviews with the Career Development Center to prepare for up-coming interviews
  • Create a portfolio (if applicable to your major)
  • Follow one potential employer on Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Google and read one article or watch TikTok video on how to perform well in a Job Interview 
  • Research organizations you are interested in working for, be aware of up-coming application deadlines 
  • Begin researching and crafting your cover letter for opportunities you are interested in
  • Conduct an information interview with your personal and professional network to inquiring about life post-graduation.
  • Use a professional background for your virtual meetings 
  • Respond to a blog or LinkedIn post by a leader in an industry that interests you
  • Listen to one podcase episode related to an industry you would like to work in
  • Polish your online presence, conduct a google search on yourself... get your privacy settings up
