Dear Students,

Welcome back!! To the new members of the William Paterson University community, we hope by now you are as excited as we are about what lays ahead of you. Student Development is committed to helping you achieve academic and personal success.

Student success is a commitment that permeates everything we do and every program we offer. We hope you will take every opportunity to become involved in the many activities, clubs, and organizations at William Paterson. Student involvement and engagement is a way for you to become a full member of the campus community. Leadership opportunities are available in many areas of campus life. These opportunities for involvement and leadership will help you tell “your story” to that employer or help you get accepted into a graduate program after graduation.

I would like your input and help on two items:

William Paterson University has been engaged in a strategic planning process that seeks the input of all members of our community. The committee includes two student members as well as faculty and staff. The first Town Hall meeting, specifically for our student body, was held on September 28, 2011. Students shared their concerns and visions for William Paterson University. The second and final all-student Town Hall meeting to discuss the draft of the Strategic Plan 2011-22, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th at 4:30 pm, in University Commons Ballroom C. This opportunity for you to provide your thoughts and input was arranged by the Student Government Association. Please take advantage of this opportunity to offer your feedback as a current student and future alum.

The second area where I am seeking your input is in February, when you will receive an invitation from President Waldron to complete a national survey called National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). It is very important for us to receive your feedback. The information collected is confidential, but most importantly, it helps us know how you feel about programs and services. It assists us administrations, faculty, and staff, with improving the William Paterson University community.

These two activities, with your input, will help shape our community.

Thank you and wishing you a great semester.

Sincerely,

John Martone Signature
