William Paterson University

As most of you already know, Nan is finally turning in her badge and retiring after teaching at William Paterson University for 48 years. When we asked Nan what she wanted for a retirement party she told us she wanted to celebrate with her former students as well as friends and family. She is inviting all to campus, hoping that some of you might get a kick out of coming, but knowing that your presence at the event is almost certainly a fantasy.

Nan’s retirement celebration will also be the launch of the Nan Guptill Crain Scholarship Fund, intended to support the education of music students, a cause that has long been important to her. To this end, Nan will match every contribution dollar for dollar, be it $10 or $1000. It is a dream of hers to establish an endowed scholarship (minimum of $25,000), that would provide scholarship support in her name in perpetuity. We think you might like to help make that dream come true!

Nan tells us that she will truly miss working with students on a daily basis, with the constant stimulation that comes from music making and guiding students as they come into their own musically. But, she says, she will not miss getting up every morning at 5 o’clock in order to be at school no later than 8. Her weekend schedule will be freer too! And be forewarned, she tells us that she plans to be visiting YOU, her extended family, whom she dearly loves.
