Welcome back! And to students joining us for the Spring semester, the first time, welcome to the William Paterson University community. I would like to update you on a few items that have occurred since Fall semester: Parking Garage: Pre-construction preparation has begun. Shortly we will begin construction on the 1,000 space parking garage. This new garage will have covered walkways to the plazas closest to the Student Center and the Science building. Shuttle Service: Three new larger sized shuttle busses have been purchased and delivered to add to our shuttle fleet. We expect the addition of buses will mitigate some of the transportation challenges between campuses caused by the road work on Hamburg Turnpike. Flu Season: Many of you are aware this is flu season. We are working closely with the local health department to monitor flu conditions. We will keep you updated if new, pertinent, information becomes available to us. We are currently seeing flu cases on campus. I am urging every student to please get the flu shot, if you haven’t done so already. I’ve included the link to the Flu Vaccination Finder (http://www.flu.gov/). The above website also contains more information about prevention and symptoms of the flu. If you are ill, and need medical attention, either call your primary care provider or the Counseling, Health & Wellness Center at 973-720-2360. Relocation of Offices: Several offices that offer student support services have relocated to Raubinger Hall. The offices are listed below: Lower Level of Raubinger Hall Academic Support Center (Tutoring, Early Alert) First Floor of Raubinger Hall
Academic Development Pioneer Café: The Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership sponsors a series of comedic acts and music in the Student Center on select Friday evenings at 8:00 pm, funded in part by a grant from the Alumni Association. Upcoming dates and events are:
Social Media: On February 21 and 22nd, Student Development will host two forums on Social Media, funded in part by a grant from the Alumni Association. We are engaging a nationally known speaker and consultant on using social media to create connections and enhance communication. He will also focus on the misuse of social media that can impact career opportunities. There will be more specific information in the weeks ahead, so save the dates. Marketplace: The Marketplace, located in Student Center lower level between the Bookstore and Starbucks, officially opened the first day of the Spring semester. The Marketplace is an on-campus grocery store that offers an array of products for our students. Take the opportunity to stop in, if you haven’t already done so. Have a great Spring semester academically and personally. |
