List of Criteria for Internet Review Paper
1. Who is the author? Does his association with the topic make him a
reliable, unbiased source or someone whose intentions may be self-serving?
How reliable is the website overall as far as its association with this
person?
2. What is the sponsoring organization or institution of the website (if
there is one)--again, how does the public bias (or lack of one) of that
organization affect the reliability of the site?
3. Is there a print source or other reliable non-electronic source that
you can use to verify any of the information on the topic as it is
presented on the site? If so, does that source verify or contradict the
information presented here?
4. On what date was the information on the site updated? Is the date
relevant to the reliability of the site?
5. How is the information presented? Is it in color, with music and
video? Does the presentation affect your impression of the information?
Does it mask an otherwise unreliable source?
6. How many links to similar sites are available at this site, if any?
Is there a comment made by the editor of the site about the relative
reliability of the links provided?
7. How popular is the site--is there a counter that tells you how many
people have visited the site? Is that relevant to its reliability as a
source?
8. How relevant overall is this site to a study of the topic itself? If
you were writing a research paper on this topic, would this be a source
you used in your research? If not, or if so, explain your answer.
