THE EXPANSION OF ROME IN ITALY
6th Century BC - ETRUSCAN RULE OVER ROME UNTIL 509 BC
496 BC - ESTABLISHMENT OF LATIN LEAGUE. Equality of cities of Latium with Rome in alliance against the Etruscans.
392 BC - Romans conquer VEII, the last Etruscan stronghold.
387 BC - GAULS (Celtics) invade Italy, burned Rome, but withdrew
338 BC - ROME DEFEATED THE LATIN LEAGUE. Rome defeated a coalition of Latin cities, dissolved the Latin League, and instituted a new system to subjugate these cities. Some cities given full citizenship; others given municipal status, which included intermarriage with Romans and trade, but not voting or holding office. Others became allies of Rome. These arrangements later served as a modelfor the settlement of Italy.
325 - 290 BC - Rome defeated the SAMNITES and controlled central Italy.
By 265 BC - Greek cities south of Italy accepted Roman domination after the had called in King Pyrrhus of Epirus to fight Romans. He was defeated. ROME DOMINATED ITALY SOUTH OF THE PO RIVER!
