TS WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

All workshops listed below are offered by Training Specialists (TS) in Atrium Rm. 121, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 7 pm. Drop in during those hours and request any of the workshops listed below. For contact information or to reserve a computer classroom for a workshop complete the following request form:

PRODUCTIVITY APPLICATIONS


USING MS ACCESS
Topics:
Database fundamentals, basics of creating tables, table relationships, and data entry. Using queries, forms and macros to gather information from a single database file; and displaying data with reports.
*Advanced Topics:
Creating and linking multiple tables, table relationships (one-to-one, one-to-many,many-to-many), using design view, mail merge.

USING MS EXCEL
Topics:
Basics of spreadsheet design, splitting panes, freezing a row or column, creating a formula, using functions, Creating a chart, graph, table, merging cells, formatting, saving.
*Advanced Topics:
Comparing data with advanced pivot tables, creating advanced charts and graphics, using advanced data analysis techniques, forms, design with excel, analyzing a database with functions, automating tasks with macros.

USING MS POWERPOINT
Topics:
Basics of creating slide presentations to illustrate, organize and professionally express your ideas. Inserting slides, text formatting, using the Drawing toolbar (creating a chart, table, diagram). Adding multimedia to slides, slide animation, creating slide transitions; using PowerPoint to share your ideas and presentations across the Internet.

USING MS WORD
Topics:
Basics of page design, formatting text, margins, line spacing, saving, inserting pictures and objects. Design professional documents, using mail merge, tables, graphics, and hyper-links to the Internet, sort data.
*Advanced Topics:
Creating outlines, creating templates, working with columns, using comments, tracking changes, format painter.

*Advanced - for individuals with a basic knowledge of the computer application being offered.

  EXCHANGE EMAIL
Topics:
Covers the email systems at William Paterson, attaching documents, changing passwords, managing folders, creating address books,message options, deleting emails, and other email features.

WPconnect
Topics:
What is WPconnect ?, how to login to WPconnect, navigate and access content through student services, Student life, Blackboard, Outlook email, how to add new content tabs.

WPONLINE
Topics:
Covers the school system at William Paterson for insights on Student records including grades, transcripts, degree audits, advisors, account information, personal information and registration and schedules.

BLACKBOARD
Topics:
Covers how to access your William Paterson courses on Blackboard for course information, assignments, communication, discussion board, announcements posted by the professor.

IMAGING, ANIMATION, AND WEB DESIGN

IMAGING - USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS
Topics:
Learn to use the industry's top image editing and manipulation software. Basic workshop teaches how to create and manipulate images with the various tools that Photoshop offers.

WEB DESIGN - USING DREAMWEAVER 8
Topics:
Learn from the basics to more advanced web design techniques using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. An in depth look at how the internet works and how to make it work for you.

ADVANCED TOOLS

THE INTERNET AS AN ACADEMIC RESEARCH TOOL (IAART)
Topics:
Using many Internet resources including FTP and the World Wide Web. An overview of the computer facilities for people new to the campus or to academic applications of technology, is also given.

MICROSOFT PUBLISHER: DESK-TOP PUBLISHING
Topics:
Basics of creating publications, text formatting, creating bulleted and numbered lists, using the research task pane, using the objects toolbar, applying a color scheme, page formatting. You will quickly learn how to create newsletters, flyers, certificates, three-folds, labels, calendars, banners, posters, or other large publications.

SPSS
Topics:
How to create a new data set, setting and naming variables, how to carry out comparative and descriptive statistics, analyze a data set, how to save data sets and select cases.

E-RECRUITING
Topics:
An on-line computerized job matching service offered to all William Paterson students free of charge, through the Career Development Center. A hands-on workshop will be offered to walk you through the steps of posting your resume on-line and searching for a job. FRESHMAN SEMINAR
Topics:
