Institutional Scholarship Programs' Requirements
University Scholars (Fall 2012)
Freshmen Awards
Trustee Scholarships
- Awards - range from $2,000 to $8,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to high-achieving high school students for their academic accomplishments, high school record and SAT (critical reasoning and math)
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
Talent Trustee Scholarships
- Awards - $1,000 to $9,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to high-achieving high school students, merit based with an emphasis on enrollment of students who demonstrate an exceptional level of potential, creative talent in their art portfolio or music audition
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: enrollment in an Art or Music discipline must be maintained for renewal of the Talent Trustee Scholarships
University Honors College Scholarships
- Awards - $2,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to high-achieving high school students, who are admitted to and enroll in the William Paterson University Honors College
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: enrollment in the University Honors College must be maintained for renewal of the Honors College Scholarships
Academic Excellence Scholarships
- Awards - (15) $1,000 scholarships
- Criteria - based on academic achievement and extracurricular activities, high school record and SAT (critical reasoning and math)
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
Educational Enrichment Grants
- Awards - (30) $1,000 scholarships
- Criteria - based on academic profiles, extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership. Preference is given to students attending New Jersey high schools in an ABBOTT school district
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 2.6
Transfer Awards
Transfer Presidential Scholarships
- Awards - $1,000 to $4,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to transfer students, based on number of credits or earned associate degree and cumulative grade point average
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: The Presidential Scholarship CANNOT be combined with the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
University Honors College Scholarships
- Awards - $2,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to high achieving transfer students, who are admitted to and enroll in the William Paterson University Honors College
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: enrollment in the University Honors College must be maintained for renewal of the Honors College Scholarships
New Jersey Residents Attending New Jersey Community Colleges: NJ STARS II
- Awards - $1,500 NJ Stars supplement from WPUNJ
- Criteria - awarded to NJ STARS ll students who apply for admission and have all supporting documents received by the May 1st Transfer Scholarship deadline
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: Student must be PTK or Presidential eligible to receive supplement
New Jersey Residents Attending New Jersey Community Colleges: Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
- Awards - $4,000 scholarships
- Criteria - awarded to transfer students, who have earned an associate's degree from a New Jersey community college, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and are members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society
- Renewal - satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation - Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- *Note: The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship CANNOT be combined with the Presidential Scholarship
NOTE:
- The Office of Scholarships reviews the academic performance of University scholars at the end of each semester to determine continued scholarship eligibility. Scholarship awards are automatically renewable, accordingly for four years (eight consecutive semesters) or two years (four consecutive semesters).
- Satisfactory progress and pursuit toward graduation requires a University scholar maintain: Full-time status (a minimum of 12 credits per semester) and the indicated required cumulative grade point average.
- Scholarship funding is Not available during the summer or winter sessions and scholarships will Not be extended beyond the specified time period.
- Scholarship recipients are required, annually, to apply for need-based financial aid by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
