The Department of Recreational Services provides an opportunity to participate in a wide range of recreational activities that reflect the interests, needs and abilities of the William Paterson University community. Recreational Services strives to enhance the quality of life of all participants through diverse recreational and educational programs designed to promote health and wellness, social interaction, lifelong learning and the constructive use of leisure time. The Recreation Center is open 7 days a week for students, faculty, staff and alumni. Activity areas include: a gymnasium with three full-sized courts that may be used for basketball and volleyball; four racquetball/handball courts (one equipped for wallyball); a weight room equipped with Body Master, Cybex and Paramount machines, Gravitron and free weights; a fitness room with Lifecycles, Concept II rowers, Stair Climbers, Elliptical Cross Trainers, Treadmills, and a Cardio Theater entertainment system; a multipurpose room with dance mirrors, heavy bag, speed bag, exercise mats, BOSU and stability balls; a lobby with shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball, and ping pong tables; two fully equipped locker rooms with showers, saunas, whirlpools and lockers available for rent or daily use. The Rec Center also contains a fully equipped control desk/sport shop which will enable you to check out, rent and/or purchase sports equipment and supplies.
Guests must be accompanied by a William Paterson student, faculty, staff, or alumni. One guest per person per day, unless playing racquetball or tennis, in which case three guests per person per day are permitted. Guests are required to present current and valid identification and will be charged a $5.00 fee to gain access to the building.
Facility Use Policies
William Paterson students with a valid ID can use the arena, weight/fitness, and racquetball facilities free of charge. Faculty, staff and alumni must obtain a Rec Center membership or pay a $5.00 daily fee.
Open Recreation Swim
The indoor pool is located in the Wightman Gym complex, which is available for your use through the Department of Recreational Services. You must have a current and valid WPUNJ student, faculty, staff, alumni or Rec Center member identification card to enter and use the pool. Guests are permitted to use the pool facility but they must be accompanied by a William Paterson student, faculty, staff or alumni. Guests are required to present current and valid identification. Three guests per person per day are permitted.
The Rec Center offers a convenient day-in-advance racquetball/wallyball call-in reservation system. Two courts are available on the hour and the remaining two courts on the half-hour. Courts must be claimed within 15 minutes of reservation time. Unreserved/unclaimed courts may be used on a first-come/first serve basis.
Racquetball Guest Policy
Three guests per person per day are permitted and must be accompanied by a William Paterson student, faculty, staff, or alumni. Guests are required to present current and valid identification and will be charged a $5.00 fee to gain access to the building.
