Mike Gatlin is the multimedia engineer and technology specialist for the
Russ Berrie Professional Sales Lab at the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales,
where he utilizes multimedia and educational technologies to improve
teaching and learning for undergraduate students and sales professionals.
He has more than seven years of experience in communication systems and
multimedia technology from the corporate sector.
Prior to his current position, Mike spent the early part of his
career as a member of technical staff at Bell Laboratories Multimedia
Communications Research Laboratory. He worked for several years with
the Bell Labs Acoustics and Speech Laboratory working on projects
such as microphone and noise cancellations for hands-free communication
systems. In that role, he studied the effects of hands-free communications
and directional microphones on automatic speech recognition systems
in noisy automobile environments. Mike later worked with a research
team to develop multimedia technologies for video transmission over
broadband networks, including DSL and wireless LAN networks.
Mike earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering as a Lucent
G.E.M. Fellow from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. His studies
were in the areas of telecommunications systems and digital signal
processing. Mike is also a member of the National Society of Black
Engineers (NSBE), Audio Engineering Society (AES), and Institute
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
