William Paterson University of New Jersey seeks an outstanding academic leader with a superior record of academic administration, scholarship and teaching excellence appropriate for a masters granting institution. The successful candidate will have a dedicated commitment to building academic programs, recruiting and supporting faculty and promoting student achievement within a diverse community. William Paterson is a selective public institution in northern New Jersey serving 11,500 students and employing 400 full time faculty. Located on 400 acres just 25 miles from New York City, the University is structured into five academic colleges – Arts and Communication; the Cotsakos College of Business; the College of Education; the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and the College of Science and Health. The University is accredited by Middle States, has an AACSB Business College, an NCATE College of Education and many other nationally accredited programs. The University launched its first doctoral program in nursing in 2012. The university places a high value on the quality of its undergraduate teaching and learning experiences with more than 250 programs and tracks. Academic Affairs also includes the following support departments and divisions: Undergraduate Academic Support, Graduate Studies, The Cheng Library, Continuing and Professional Education, Teaching Excellence, Sponsored Research, International Education, and Institutional Research and Assessment. More than 600 faculty, managers, and professional staff serve the colleges, departments and divisions of academic affairs. As chief academic officer of the University, the Provost reports directly to the President, is a member of the University’s Cabinet and acts on behalf of the President in her absence. With new presidential leadership, the next Provost will have the opportunity to refine and extend an academic vision through developing new academic programs, implementing the new University Core Curriculum and implementing the new WP Strategic Plan 2012-2022. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Applicants must have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution; a progressive record of increasing academic leadership; a distinguished record of teaching, scholarly achievement, and professional accomplishments sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor in an academic department. The successful candidate will demonstrate: the ability to foster academic standards of excellence; strong communication and interpersonal skills; a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion; effectiveness in dealing with current challenges confronting higher education institutions in the 21st century; and success in academic administration leadership, including the development and implementation of academic policy, budgeting and program assessment. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and be supportive of a campus culture grounded in genuine collaboration, transparency and team-oriented leadership. SALARY: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, including an excellent benefits package.
