To the William Paterson University Community
I am pleased to announce that Kristin Cohen has accepted our offer to join William Paterson University as Vice President for Enrollment Management, effective April 11, 2011. Following a national search with 58 candidates, the Search Committee invited three individuals to campus for a full day of interviews with key constituent groups. We were pleased with the quality of candidates who applied for the position and the deliberation and input from many members of the University community. I want to thank the Search Committee – Andrew Barnes, Candace Burns, Nina Jemmott, Joann Lee, Jonathan McCoy, and Bob Seal – for their time, effort, and wisdom.
Kris has over 20 years of experience in enrollment management at public and private universities in New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. She joins us from Bloomfield College where she served as Vice President of Enrollment Management for the past four years and from Long Island University where she served as Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management to over 13,000 students. Prior to joining LIU, Kris served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Montclair State University, at a time when graduate programs were expanded and enrollment surged to more than 3,800 graduate students. From 1989 to 1997, she was Assistant Dean for Administration and Student Services at Brandeis University’s Graduate School of International Economics and Finance. During her career in Enrollment Management, Kris’ areas of responsibility have included admissions, financial aid, registrar, and marketing. She has extensive management experience, overseeing a team of professionals, operating budgets of over $2 million and financial aid budgets of over $6 million. Kris also has extensive experience with the use of modern recruitment and retention technology and has a reputation for being very data-driven in her approach to analyzing problems. Kris has worked closely with administrators and faculty to develop recruitment strategies for new programs and to reinvigorate other programs to promote the overall growth of the institutions where she worked. At each institution, enrollment grew significantly, retention improved, and graduate programs thrived under her leadership.
A 1988 graduate of Hofstra University with a bachelor’s degree in political science, Kris earned a master’s degree in education with a specialization in higher education administration from Boston University in 1995. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration at NewYork University.
The creation of the Vice President for Enrollment Management position fills a long-term need of this University and will lead to a reorganization of some departments and units. Kris will report directly to the President and will be a member of the University’s Cabinet. We are pleased to welcome Kristin Cohen to William Paterson University and look forward to her arrival on April 11, 2011.
