To the William Paterson University Community
I am pleased to announce that New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno will be the speaker at William Paterson University’s commencement ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Izod Center in East Rutherford. The University will present the lieutenant governor with an honorary doctor of laws degree.
Kim Guadagno was elected New Jersey's first lieutenant governor in November 2009. As Governor Chris Christie's running mate, she was sworn into office on January 19, 2010. In addition to her position as lieutenant governor, she serves as New Jersey’s thirty-third secretary of state.
As previously announced, in an effort to make the event more convenient for students and their families, the University for the first time in its history will hold the commencement ceremony off campus. Holding the ceremony at the Izod Center eliminates the need for a rain date, offers ample parking, and enables students to invite as many guests as they wish.
While the location is changing, the ceremony will maintain the long tradition of recognizing each graduate individually. This year, our baccalaureate and master’s degrees will be awarded in one combined ceremony. The event will also include the presentation of the Faculty Recognition Awards.
Additional information about commencement, including directions to the Izod Center, is available on the University homepage.
