To the William Paterson University Community
I am pleased to announce that Glenn Jones, Esq. has joined the William Paterson University community today, February 6, 2012, as General Counsel to the University and the Board. Glenn joins us from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where he served as Deputy General Counsel from 2007 to fall 2011, managing the operations of the Office of Legal Management for one of the largest public academic health institutions in the country. He supervised legal staff in areas of healthcare, employment, contracts, research, licensing, litigation, foundation and academic affairs law. In addition, Glenn served as attorney to the governing board of UMDNJ.
Prior to his experience at UMDNJ, Glenn served in various capacities in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office from 1988 to 2007. Among his different positions, he was the Assistant Attorney General in the Division of Law as a litigation supervisor, a Section Chief for Employment and Counseling, and as Deputy in Charge of Litigation. Glenn also served as Deputy Attorney General in the Federal Rights section where he was trial counsel in employment law and First Amendment and civil rights violations. Prior to his experience in the Attorney General’s Office, Glenn was an associate with Haight Gardner Poor and Havens, a private law firm in New York, from 1983 to 1988.
Glenn obtained his J.D. from Cornell Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rutgers University. He was admitted to the New Jersey and New York Bars, and has served as a New Jersey Bar Examiner and a member of the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Glenn also was an adjunct professor at Rutgers University where he taught legal issues and real estate.
The position of General Counsel is a newly created office at our University and is established to provide improved and more frequent legal advice to the University community. As many of you know, the University historically relied on the Attorney General’s Office for most of its legal support as was the case for other public universities in New Jersey. Over the last several years, most of our sister institutions created offices of internal counsel as the State Attorney General’s Office experienced reductions in staffing and as legal issues became more complex at universities. Until today, only Ramapo and William Paterson did not have internal legal representation.
Glenn will report directly to the president and will be a part of the University’s Cabinet. Please join me in welcoming Glenn to William Paterson University.
