To the William Paterson University Community

I am pleased to announce that William Paterson University has been designated to receive $32 million in state funding from the Building Our Future and other bond funds.  This is excellent news for our University and will help us prepare the campus to meet the needs of students and faculty for many years.

Pending legislative approval, the University will receive $30 million from the “Building Our Future” Bond Act which was approved by New Jersey voters last November and provides $750 million in general obligation bonds for capital projects at 52 public and private colleges and universities statewide.  The funds will enable the University to build a new, $40 million academic building to be located on the site of the current Coach House. The new building will be a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility that will include 16 general-use classrooms as well as specialized classrooms and clinical spaces for our well-established and expanding programs in nursing, communication disorders, and public health, programs that are designed to meet the burgeoning statewide need for health care professionals.  The University will fund the $10 million balance for the building from internal resources; it will not be necessary to borrow additional funds for the project.

The additional $2 million in funding from the Higher Education Technology Infrastructure Fund and Equipment Leasing Fund will allow us to upgrade and expand the University’s voice, video and data network throughout the entire campus as well as provide high-definition capabilities for the Communication Department broadcast television studios in Hobart Hall.

This exciting development is the first step in our plans to modernize the academic core of the campus. For the past six months, we have been working with architects and faculty to plan for the new building.  We are now ready to proceed with implementation of these plans.  I will keep you updated as we progress.

Congratulations to our campus community!

Sincerely,

Kathleen Waldron
