To the William Paterson University Community

As we welcome Kristin Cohen as our new Vice President for Enrollment Management on April 11, 2011, I want to announce a major reorganization of the University’s management structure that pulls together all of the enrollment management functions at the University into one integrated division.

Beginning on April 11, the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions (Colleen Fuller), Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Services (Tinu Adeniran), Financial Aid (Betty Riquez), the Center for Student Services (Ken Schneider), and Registration Services (Nina Trelisky) will report to the Vice President for Enrollment Management. The Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Information Specialist, Jonathan McCoy, will report to Kristin Cohen and assume additional responsibilities. These offices will stay in their current locations until the renovation of Morrison Hall is completed in January 2012, at which time all of these offices will move there. The Vice President’s office will be located on the ground floor of Morrison Hall.

This reorganization and eventual relocation will bring all of these critical enrollment management functions under one umbrella and in one location, which should have a significant impact on the quality of support services we provide our students and on our ability to evaluate and meet our programmatic enrollment goals in the future. As part of the six strategic planning goals defined by the Board of Trustees and reiterated by me in Planning for a Strategic Plan 2011-2020 for William Paterson University, we have identified Goal 3 as the following:

“William Paterson will steadily increase its enrollment while improving recruitment and retention. Enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students will increase in programs of excellence and new programs will be developed.”

To move forward on that goal will require a great deal of discussion and effort in the months ahead and the VP for Enrollment Management, in collaboration with the campus community and the Faculty Senate Admissions and Enrollment Management Council, will be the key person to report on our progress, provide data reports, and lead campus discussions on admissions, retention, and graduation rates. The shift of the Office of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Services requires some clarification. The VP for Enrollment Management will work in consultation with the Provost, Deans, department chairs, and graduate program directors to grow and expand the University’s graduate programs. While faculty and academic administrators are responsible for defining the academic programs including admissions standards and program size, the Office of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Management will be responsible for recruiting, advertising, and handling student communication in an effort to provide full service to graduate program directors.

I want to thank John Martone and his team for the leadership provided to Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Center for Student Services, and Registration Services for the past five years. John will continue to serve as Vice President for Student Development. I also want to thank Nina Jemmott for her leadership of the Office of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Services over the past sixteen years. Nina will continue to serve as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research.
