Staff

Martin B. Williams, Director
As the Director of the OSP, Mr. Williams is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the office. He is primarily involved in working with faculty and staff on the development and submission of proposals to Federal and State funding agencies as well as charitable foundations and corportations to support faculty research efforts. He is also involved in providing non-financial administrative oversight for funded grants and contracts and for administering the University's IRB and other compliance programs. He also serves on the Faculty Senate Research Council and is a member of the Steering Committee of the the WPU Director's Council.

Mr. Williams is the first Director of Sponsored Programs for WPUNJ, appointed in January 1997. He had previously served as the Assistant Director for Advancement Research in WPUNJ's Advancement Office, being appointed to that position in February 1995.

Prior to his appointment to WPUNJ, Mr. Williams had served as the Senior Development Officer for the Newark Public Library for a period of five years. He was responsible for the preparation and submission of grant proposals to Federal, State, foundation and corporate funding programs, for the creation, development and management of the Friends of the Newark Public Library, and provided administrative support to funded programs. Mr. Williams has also worked as a consultant for local school districts through Bruno Associates of Bloomfield, NJ, as a consultant to local arts and cultural organizations through Cultural Resource & Development Associates of Pompton Plains, NJ, served as a trustee and president of the Greater Newark Conservancy, has provided volunteer fund raising and grantsmanship services and advice to several community, arts and religious organizations in Northern New Jersey, and has conducted grant writing workshops for the Support Center of New Jersey and taught grant writing as an adjunct for Kean University.

Mr. Williams is a member of:

  • National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) Region II activities include service on the program committees for the 2006, 2008 and 2009 Spring Meetings, Chair of the 2007 Region II Spring Meeting, and the Steering Committee 2007-2008.
  • Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP), New Jersey Chapter
  • Council for Undergraduate Research (CUR)

Assistant Director, Pre-Award Services: Vacant

Beth Ann Bates, Program Assistant
Ms. Bates was appointed to this position in August of 2001. She came to the Office of Sponsored Programs from WPUNJ's Registrar's Office, where she had worked for over five years.

In May 2002, Ms. Bates earned her MA in English here at WPUNJ. She is currently an adjunct instructor in the English department, in addition to her full-time responsibilities in the OSP

Ms. Bates is a member of the National Council of University Research Administration (NCURA) and she attended their 3 day Fundamentals Training in February 2002.
