The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are completed in 60 minutes. The MAT is intended to measure the ability to recognize relationships between ideas, fluency in the English language, and general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. There is no foreign language edition of the MAT. Dictionaries or any other reference aides are not permitted when taking the MAT. The MAT is administered through a network of Controlled Testing Centers. Locations, telephone numbers, current and complete information about the Millers Analogies Test are available by visiting: www.milleranalogies.com or by calling 800-627-7271.

After you take the MAT, you will receive your Score Report two to three weeks from the date that Harcourt Assessment receives your test. Your score report provides you with the scaled score and percentile ranks you received on the MAT. Scaled scores range from 200 to 600 with a mean average of 400. Percentile rank ranges from 1 to 99. A listing of the recipient schools you chose to receive your scores is included with your Score Report.

Examination periods are scheduled periodically throughout the year. The complete schedule for each semester is available from the office and on this page below. The Millers Analogies Test can be taken either with the traditional paper version (for documented special needs candidates) or the new computer-based test. If you are requesting accommodations, it is important you visit the Miller Analogies Test website and complete the Accommodations Request Form.  The form is located in the Disability Accommodations link.  The examination costs $75 ($50 and a $25 non-refundable service fee) payable to William Paterson University. Your examination fee covers one personal Score Report and up to three official transcripts that will be sent to the schools you specify when taking the exam.
