New Center Holds Chinese New Year’s Celebration The University’s new Center for Chinese Art will usher in the Year of the Tiger on February 17 with a celebration that includes demonstrations of Chinese art, and performances of traditional music, jazz and Chinese opera. Chinese food will also be served. The day’s events will begin with a program on Chinese art appreciation by Zhiyuan Cong, William Paterson University professor of art, and director of the new Center, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Power Art building. Musical performances will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., also in the Power Art building. Yang Yi will play the guzheng, an ancient Chinese string instrument. A guzheng virtuoso, she is well-known for her talent in China and the U.S. Zhao Naiyi, who acts in Chinese opera, will offer a “Changing Faces” performance. This particular art form shows a character’s inner thoughts and feelings in a romantic way. Also performing will be the William Paterson University Jazz Ensemble, part of the University’s internationally known Jazz Studies Program. Chinese food will be available.
