Barbara Andrew, Interim Director Of The William Paterson University Honors College, Selected For Inaugural AASCU Emerging Leaders Program

Barbara Andrew, interim director of the William Paterson University Honors College and a professor of philosophy, has been selected to participate in the inaugural class of the American Association of State Colleges & Universities (AASCU) Emerging Leaders Program. This three-day seminar, held June 11-14, 2016 in Washington, D.C., is designed for promising mid-career professionals and faculty leaders in higher education.

In addition to strengthening and enhancing leadership skills, participants in the Emerging Leaders Program will have the opportunity to engage in a national dialogue with experienced leaders and experts in higher education and to develop a network of colleagues from across the country. The program includes opportunities for hands-on practical exercises, a leadership self-assessment, and the development of a plan designed to help participants achieve their leadership goals.

Participants were nominated for the Emerging Leaders Program by presidents, chancellors and cabinet-level administrators; each participant must have demonstrated to campus leaders the potential for advancement at their campus or another institution. Upon completion of the program, nominators will identify a project, initiative or assignment that will expand the participant’s knowledge of the university and facilitate his or her growth as leader by using the skills learned during the program.

Andrew joined the William Paterson University faculty in 2002. A specialist in feminist theory, ethics, social and political philosophy, her most recent publications consider love and freedom as moral principles. Andrew is the co-editor of Feminist Interventions in Ethics and Politics, as well as numerous articles, book chapters, and presentations.  Prior to being named interim director of the University’s Honors College in 2015, she served as chair of the philosophy department from 2011 to 2015 and on numerous academic committees.  Andrew has served on the board of the Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute and on committees for the Association for Feminist Ethics and Social Theory and the North American Society for Social Philosophy. A graduate of Vassar College, she earned a graduate certificate in women’s studies and master’s and doctoral degrees from Stony Brook University. Andrew is a resident of Monroe, New York.
