Staged Readings of the Finalists from the Tenth Annual NJ Playwrights Contest, Play and Musical Series, to be held at William Paterson University from January 24 to 31
Staged readings of the three finalists of the Tenth Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest, Play Series, will be performed January 22 to 24, and the three finalists in the Musical Series will be performed January 29 to 31 at William Paterson University in Wayne. All performances are free and take place at 8 p.m. in the University’s Hunziker Black Box Theater.
The Play Series opens on Tuesday, January 22, with a staged reading of “The Velvet Weapon” by Deborah Brevoort. “The Legacy” by Adam Siegel will be read on Wednesday, January 23, and on Thursday, January 24, “Warmth” by Diana Rissetto, will be featured.
On Tuesday, January 29, the Musical Series begins with a staged reading of “A Lasting Impression” by Zoe Sarnak. “Worst in Show” by Eileen Deutsch will follow on Wednesday, January 30, and the last staged reading for the finalists will be “Roam the Ruins,” book and lyrics by Richard Dery and music by Sam Levine, will be held on January 31.
An open discussion with the authors, cast and directors will follow each reading.
The winner of the Play Series and the winner of the Musical Series will each receive a fully staged production in the 2013-2014 academic year.
