William Paterson University Celebrates Alumni Artists

--Juried exhibition features works by 28 alumni artists

The talents of 28 William Paterson University alumni artists who work in a variety of artistic media are currently on view in the University’s Power Art Center Gallery, 25 Power Ave, Wayne, through September 29, 2013.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment. Admission is free. A closing reception for the exhibition will be held on Sunday, September 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Organized by the William Paterson University Galleries, the William Paterson University Art Department, and the William Paterson University Office of Alumni Relations, the juried exhibition showcases the work of alumni artists, and is scheduled to coincide with the University’s Homecoming Weekend 2013, which will take place from September 27 to 29. Three William Paterson University art faculty served as jurors for the exhibition: Lauren Razzore, associate professor of art and chair of the art department; Charles Magistro, professor of art; and Alejandro Anreus, professor of art.

Among the works selected for the exhibition are mixed media abstractions by Virginia Block ’68, M.A. ’71, one of the early graduates of the University’s art program and the co-founder and first president of Studio Montclair.  Also featured are paintings by three current University faculty members: Miriam Bisceglia, M.F.A. ’05, Giovanna Cecchetti, M.F.A. ’03, and Andrea Geller, M.F.A. ’04.

The exhibition also includes mixed media works by Alphonso Dunn ’04, recipient of a prestigious 2013 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Artist Fellowship.   Lazaro Juan, a 2012 graduate of the University, has created a sire-specific installation, “Altar of the jubilant rants.”

Other artists included in the exhibition are Jennifer Baum ’04, Evertt Beidler ’98, Ellen Denuto ’74, M.A. ’96, Wendy Erickson, M.F.A. ’04, Juan Giraldo ’09, Mehdi Hashemi ’09, Lisa Hirkaler ’02, Constance Kocur-Stephens ’08, Paul Moench ’93, Angelica Munoz ’05, Diane Neglio ’04, Adam Nowicki, M.F.A. ‘12, Sharon Pflug-Moench ‘91, Diana Jean Puglisi ’11, Tara Raye Russo ’00, Jennifer Yukie Ueda ’10, Daniel Valentin ’08, Lydia Viscardi, M.F.A. ’06, Kali Wallace ’13, Michael Wolf, M.F.A. ’06, Karla Wong ’09, and Tami Crupi Zeman, M.F.A. ’10.
