Winner of the Ninth Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest to Present “Exquisite Potential” from April 4 to April 28
“Exquisite Potential” by Stephen Kaplan, winner of the Ninth Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest – Play Series, will be presented at William Paterson University in Wayne from April 4 to April 28 in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus.
“Exquisite Potential” follows the story of Alan Zuckerman, a man who believes David, his three-year-old son, is the Messiah. Zuckerman compiles a list of events to present to his rabbi for verification. Skepticism abounds in this new comedy-drama that explores the expectations impose on ourselves and others to “do good.” The play is written by Stephen Kaplan of Bogota. Kaplan earned his B.F.A. from New York University and is completing his M.A. in theatre studies at Montclair State University. He is a five-time winner of the Blank Theatre Company’s Young Playwright’s Competition and has also won the Bank of America’s Young Artist’s Award and the California Young Playwright’s Award. Kaplan has written a number of productions including “A Real Boy,” “The Book of Daniel,” “And Jack Came Tumbling After” and “Self Addressed,” among others.
Portraying the role of Alan/David Zuckerman is Matt Rofofsky of Fort Lee. Erin Zapcic of Nutley, a William Paterson alumna, plays Lauren/Beth Zuckerman and the role of Gary/David Gerber is played by Joe Raik of Brooklyn, N.Y., with Patrick Little of Upper Montclair as Gary Gerber. “Exquisite Potential” is produced by Edward Matthews, professional staff member, and Shari Selke, professional staff member, as production stage manager.
