William Paterson University Awarded $575,000 to Develop Training Programs for Companies Around the State
Grants administered through the University’s Center for Continuing and Professional Education will provide customized training on-site at companies throughout the state
William Paterson University was awarded three state grants totaling $575,000 to develop customized training programs for workers in numerous companies in the state. The grants were awarded by the New Jersey Labor and Workforce Development (NJLWD) Customized Training Program.
The NJLWD Customized Training Program was established in 1992 as an economic tool to help businesses in New Jersey create, retain high skills, high wage jobs in New Jersey. The Customized Training grants are available to upgrade the skills of New Jersey workers, and to make employers more competitive in the global economy. Funds for this training grant were awarded through the state’s Skills4Jersey initiative.
The customized training grants awarded to the University will help to fund training programs for three consortia of healthcare, hospitality, and advanced manufacturing companies. The healthcare consortium was awarded $199,240 for seven companies to train 580 employees and to hire at least 22 new workers in Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union, Warren, and Somerset counties. The hospitality consortium of seven companies was awarded $196,800 to train 588 employees and to hire at least 40 new workers in Bergen, Atlantic, and Ocean counties. The advanced manufacturing consortium was awarded $178,600 to train 470 employees to hire 40 new workers in Somerset, Bergen, and Passaic counties.
