What programs are offered by WPU at Mercer?

Mercer County Community College and William Paterson University have joined together to offer the opportunity for transfer students with an associate's degree (AA, AS, or AFA) to earn their bachelor’s degree at a discounted rate, conveniently at MCCC's West Windsor Campus. The programs are offered by William Paterson University, a New Jersey state university, at the MCCC West Windsor campus during day, evenings, Fridays, weekends, and online. The degrees that are currently offered are:

B.A. in Liberal Studies with concentrations in any two of the following:

English, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology

I have an Associate's degree in Applied Science (AAS).  Can I still be admitted to WP at Mercer?

Some Applied Science (AAS) degrees may be admitted and must be reviewed on a case by case basis.  Please contact mercer@wpunj.edu for more information.

What is the application and admission process?

William Paterson University welcomes applications to its bachelor’s degree programs in Liberal Studies and Psychology that are offered on the MCCC campus in West Windsor, New Jersey. Students can apply online to the WPU at Mercer program for the fall and spring semesters. 

Important note when applying to WP at Mercer: When filling out the application, students must select "transfer" as their application type and "traditional on-campus, face-to-face & hybrid programs" for the type of program they are seeking in order to select the Mercer County Community College Partnership Program (even if they plan to register for all or most of their courses online).  See screenshot below for a sample of how the application should look.

The deadlines for admissions applications are August 1st for the fall term and January 8th for the spring term.  The application and all supporting official transcripts/documents must be received by the deadlines.

Students must send official transcripts from ALL previous colleges attended.

It takes approximately 2 weeks to review and respond, once the application is completed and all supporting documents have been received.

Do I have to pay the enrollment fee?

The enrollment fee is mandatory for everyone.

 

I just got accepted, how do I register for courses?

Students are given instructions in their admission acceptance packet on how to register. 

I need proof of full-time enrollment as a WPU at Mercer student? What office can help me with that?

To obtain verification of full-time enrollment, contact the Office of Student Enrollment Services. They can be reached at 973-720-3945 and are located in Morrison Hall on the main campus. Information can also be found here.

 

Can I purchase my books from MCCC’s bookstore?

Books will be available at Mercer’s bookstore several weeks before the semester begins.

To see the complete listing of books that the MCCC bookstore carries for WPU at Mercer students, go to www.mccc.bkstr.com then select Textbooks and Course Materials in upper left corner and hit enter. Next select, all as your program then term then select William Paterson as your department.

Please note: The MCCC bookstore only carries those books for WPU courses that are offered on site at MCCC. To see the books that are required for online courses, see your course schedule under your WPConnect account.

How many credits can I transfer in from a community college?

Transfer credit is given for all earned credits except in such cases where the earned grade does not meet program requirements.  There is no limit to the number of credits that may be transferred and WP does not differentiate between courses by 2-year and 4-year institutions.

 

Can I take foreign language courses at Mercer after I obtain an associate degree?

Yes,please complete a Visiting Student Form and a Financial aid Consortium Agreement (see above for more information) first, then enroll in two consecutive foreign language courses at Mercer (or American Sign Language I and II). Contact your faculty advisor for approval and details.

 

I have one more class or credit before I graduate from my county college, can I enroll in classes at WPU while I complete this class?

Will my accessibility/disability accommodations transfer from MCCC to WPU automatically?

No.  Accommodations DO NOT automatically transfer.  Students should apply online to request accessibility accommodations at WPU.  Questions should be directed to the Accessibility Resource Center at William Paterson by phone at 973-720-2853 or email at arc@wpunj.edu

 

Where will graduation be held?

Graduation is held at the Prudential Center in Newark once a year in May. Additionally, there is a WPU at Mercer graduation celebration held on the MCCC campus (usually in the MCCC Conference Center) for WPU at Mercer graduates and their families a few days prior to Prudential Center ceremony.  Details are usually sent out in March each year.
