A Meeting to Plan and Develop NJAIN: The New Jersey Academic Information Network

Thursday, March 27, 1997
Alexander Library, Rutgers University, Scholarly Communication Center, 4th Floor
10 am to 1 pm

Background: Efforts are underway to develop a proposal for a portion of the proposed Higher Education Technology Bond Issue to create a statewide virtual academic library system. Towards this end, each private and public institution of higher education is invited to participate in a meeting to help plan and articulate a collaborative vision. The meeting, organized by Wm. Paterson College and hosted by Rutgers University Libraries with the support of the New Jersey Inter-Institutional Network (NJIN) and the Council of College and University Library Directors, will be a forum to discuss these ideas and develop a plan of action.

Since planning time for this initiative may be short, please make every effort to send two representatives from your institution: the Library Director (or designee) and the institution's Systems Manager or Network Services Coordinator. Your NJIN representative may also wish to participate.

For some background reading on statewide virtual library systems, you may be interested in an article by Wm. Potter, "Recent Trends in Statewide Academic Library Consortia," Library Trends (45:3, pp. 416-434) and the special issue of Library HiTech (14:2-3, 1996).

Please RSVP using the tear-off below or via the NJAIN Website (see below) by March 24 and call Rutgers Library Administration at 908-932-7505 for parking information. Questions or more information? Please call or email Dr. John Gaboury, Wm. Paterson College Library, 201-595-2113, gabouryj@nebula.wpunj.edu.
