Holds/Recall

If an item is checked out to another borrower, students, faculty or staff of William Paterson University may ask that it be held for them when returned. A notice will be sent when the item becomes available.
A book may be recalled if requested by another patron or needed for class reserve. The current borrower will receive a notice that the item is needed. If deemed necessary the Library may shorten the item’s current loan period to make it available to the next borrower. Fines may be charged if the material is not returned promptly.

Overdue Fines

Fines for overdue library materials are collected as follows: $.25 per day for books; $1.00 per day for AV materials and computer software; and $5.00 a day for Reserve materials. Maximum overdue fines are $20.00 per item.
Payment by check or money order is recommended.

Billing for Overdue Material

If material is not returned thirty five days after the due date, a bill for replacement is sent. Replacement costs vary for types of material.
Fines accrue until the overdue item is returned. Maximum overdue fines are $20.00 per item.

Lost and Damaged Materials

Borrowers are responsible for all materials charged out on their record, and will be required to pay the replacement costs for each lost or damaged item. Fees vary for types of materials.

Non-Compliance

If a borrower does not comply with Library policies, the following will apply:
  1. Borrowing privileges will be suspended until resolution of obligations.
  2. A Hold will be placed on a student’s record, which will not allow the release of transcripts or diplomas.
  3. After sixty days, obligations will be referred to the New Jersey Set-Off Individual Liability program which will deduct fees from NJ Income Tax refunds and NJ Homestead Rebates.
  4. After six months, obligations will be submitted to a professional collection agency.
