The Newbery Medal, named for eighteenth century British bookseller John Newbery, was established in 1922 by the American Library Association (ALA). It is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published in the preceding year. For additional information, see the ALA website.
A display copy of each Newbery Award book is available in the Curriculum Materials Department of the Library. Additional copies are shelved in the juvenile collection. Call numbers are listed in bold to help locate copies that may be borrowed.
