of the harvest," is a non-religious holiday that celebrates the African
American people and their past. The holiday was started by Dr. Maulana
Karenga in 1966 to restore African cultural traditions to the African American
people. The holiday is celebrated in December, starting the day after Christmas
and ending on New Years Day.
