The Curriculum Materials Department, located on the first floor of
the David & Lorraine Cheng Library, is a resource and reference collection available
primarily for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, teachers and
school librarians. Specialized materials in the collection include:
Reference Materials
Indexes, bibliographies and reference books are shelved in a separate room
in the back of the department. A to Zoo: A Subject Index to Picture
Books, Children's Book Review Index, Something about the
Author and The World Book Encyclopedia are some of the resources in
this collection. Arranged by Library of Congress classification, these
materials must be used in the library.
Teaching Aids Collection
Ideas for lesson plans, teaching activities, bulletin boards, and
curriculum standards are arranged by Library of Congress classification and must be used in the library.
Textbook Collection
Sample textbooks for Kindergarten through grade 12 are arranged by subject
area, then by publisher and grade level. Arranged in Dewey Decimal order,
textbooks are for reference only.
Curriculum Guide Collections
The New Jersey Curriculum Guide collection includes samples from
school districts throughout the state. These printed guides are arranged in
file cabinets by subject, school district and grade level. An index by school
districts is available. Curriculum Guides must remain in the library.
The Kraus Curriculum Development Library, in microfiche, includes
curricula, frameworks and standards from throughout the United States. The
KCDL Index is available in paper and on CD-ROM. A microfiche
reader/printer is available for in-house use only.
Juvenile Books
Picture books, fiction and non-fiction for preschool to grade 12, are
organized according to the Dewey Decimal system. Intended to supplement
curriculum resources, the collection also includes multiple copies of
Caldecott and Newbery Award books. Juvenile periodicals are also available in
the Curriculum Materials Room. Juvenile books may be borrowed for four weeks.
Holocaust Education Collection
Resources for teaching about diversity, prejudice, genocide and the
Holocaust in grades K-12 are available in this collection. Included are
juvenile and adult books about the Holocaust and related topics, and
curriculum resources created by the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust
Education. Relevant video resources may be borrowed from the Media Services
Department.
Education-Related Materials Not Found in Curriculum Materials Room
Books -- Located on the Second Level. May be borrowed for 28
days.
Computer Software - Located in the Electronic Resource Center
(ERC).
May be borrowed for 7 days. Includes Macintosh and PC-compatible software.
ERIC documents - Available on microfiche from Periodicals.
May be duplicated.
Journals - Located in Periodicals. For reference only.
Videocassettes, videodiscs - Located in Media Services. May
be borrowed for 3 days.
