The Reserves
Hub: A solution for secure, intuitive
course reserves
Andrew Ashton - Systems Librarian -
Skidmore College
In summer 2004, we at Skidmore built a complete e-reserves system from the ground up. It provides users with a secure and personalized space for accessing and managing their course reserves by tying into campus registrar's databases, authentication databases, and the library's Voyager system. In this presentation I will explore the technology behind this system, demonstrate how it interfaces with Voyager, and discuss the challenges and benefits involved in implementing an ambitious and untested e-reserves initiative.

Individual consultations on implementing edi ordering, invoicing, and transfer of accounting data tailored to the requirements of your local environment. In presenting sessions on the topics of EDI ordering, invoicing, claiming and on data transfer to a central accounting facility for the last five or more years at both EMA and EndUser, a constant theme from our audiences has been the difficulties faced locally in wading through system, staffing, and management issues. This session will offer an opportuity to discuss the particulars of your situation with experienced staff who will help you craft a game plan for implementation, provide background information that your auditors, selectors, or whoever need, and give you the confidence to finally implement at your home institution this essential efficiency.

Handy Tools for
Circulation and the Web
Nick Cappadona - Interface Designer
- Albert R. Mann Library, Cornell University
Tom Trutt - E-Reserve and Access Services
Specialist - Albert
R. Mann Library, Cornell University
We have a few handy tools based on simple
SQL statements. One of these tools gives
easy access to the availability of reserve
items, study rooms, and other high-use
items. Currently there is no function
in Voyager to pull multiple item details
for a single location, where the items
are not viewable through the OPAC. These
SQL statements were adapted for both
the web, for patron use, and a VB.NET
terminal program giving staff quick access
to the current status of these high use
items.
The current web interface can be viewed

Making
use of Gary Strawn’s Voyager Programs:
TCNJ Library’s experience
Cathy Weng - Head of Cataloging - The
College of New Jersey
Melissa Hofmann - Principal Library Assistant
- The College of New Jersey
In 2004, The College of New Jersey Library began to use Gary Strawn’s Voyager programs to be part of its routine cataloging and database maintenance workflow. It has been a very satisfactory experience. The cataloging quality and production have been improved immensely. Cataloging staff are also happy with it. This presentation will focus on the following three products: SpineLabel, VgerSelect, and LocationChanger. The features and functions of these programs will be introduced. Details of how TCNJ Library has used them to perform routine cataloging work will also be described.

Less Form, more function:
Book deliveries to nearly anywhere with
Callslip
Jesse Koennecke - Access Services Librarian
- Cornell University
As part of Cornell's Get it! Prroject, to expand and simplify delivery of materials to our patrons, we have been considering ways to get more functionality out of our existing systems. Cornell has been using CallSlip for several years to allow patrons to request materials from one of our campus libraries to another. This year, we expanded on this to include delivery to faculty departments and are now embarking on a pilot to deliver to off campus programs. All of these delivery options utilize the same CallSlip form in Voyager, hopefully simplyfying the process for the end users. This presentation will demonstrate how our system works, what choices we made along the way, and how we plan to expand. |

Access Queries
Janet Lute - Integrated Library System
Coordinator - Princeton University
This session will focus on writing queries in Access that will extract Voyager data. The emphasis will be on tips that will help users to produce accurate results, efficiently. This will not be a basic introduction to reporting but it will help both those who have not actually written any of their own queries before and those who have some experience in this area. There will be opportunities to ask questions.
