What's new for students for fall 2011
Welcome back (or welcome for the first time) for the Fall 2011 semester!
In an attempt to proactively alleviate the common issues encountered at the beginning of each semester, Information Systems would like to bring a few things to your attention.
Residence Halls Wireless Access and Internet Upgrade - New!
Our campus wireless network has been expanded over the summer and it is now providing wireless access for all students residing in the Residence Halls in addition to the existing coverage. To see the most current information on WPUNJ wireless coverage, please check our Wireless Coverage Areas site. Additionally, our Internet bandwidth has been upgraded with a second 500Mbits line providing full Internet redundancy, this translates to no Internet interruptions.
Alert Notice:
Students either residing in our Residence Halls or utilizing the WPUNJ wireless network will find that a Cisco NAC agent (formerly known as "Clean Access") upgrade is required to access the WPUNJ network. While the upgrade process is fairly straightforward, students encountering issues can visit the ResNet office located on the ground floor of Century Hall Room 14 (x3967, ResNet@wpunj.edu) for assistance. For up to date information regarding wireless setup, gaming consoles, etc. students can visit our ResNet site.
WPconnect
WPconnect serves as the main entry point to many of WPUNJ’s online services. During the first few days of prior semesters we have experienced extremely high volumes of access to WPconnect which has resulted in slowdowns for WPconnect. We’ll take this opportunity to inform you of alternate access methods to a few critical online services in the event that WPconnect experiences performance issues during the next week.

- Blackboard can be accessed at http://bb.wpunj.edu
- Banner Self-Service for Students** (class schedules, registration, etc.) can be accessed using the link on the Enrolled Students site - http://www.wpunj.edu/enrolled
- Online Billing and Statements** (bills and payment) can also be accessed using the link on the Enrolled Students site above.
**Systems login with a WPUNJ ID # and PIN. If you don’t know your ID or PIN, visit www.wpunj.edu/username.
WPUNJ Accounts - Change your password!
Your WPUNJ account is the key to your William Paterson online profile and as such we recommend that all members of our University community maintain a strong password on their account. A strong password contains at least 8 characters with a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. We have added a new feature to WPconnect that allows for easier access to changing your password. Please see the “Change Password” channel found on the main tab of WPconnect. Any individual encountering issues with their WPUNJ account should contact the Helpdesk at 973.720.HELP (4357) or Help@wpunj.edu.
Upcoming Initiatives
We will continue to add new services to improve your overall WPUNJ experience. Look for additional information on new services including an upgraded WPconnect and a new self-service Helpdesk support site to be made available during the semester.
