WPUNJ Faculty Guide to Bb
Course Options: Copy/Export

Instructors may copy all of part of courses from one semester to the next, or can export a course package for later installation. Because the destination shell for a copied course must already be set up it is usually easier to request the transfer of content by filling out the form located at http://euphrates.wpunj.edu/irt/bb/

Export will create a course package which faculty can store on a local computer for later integration with the Bb system. The process differs from the Archive protocol, which stores the various components of a course in a Zip file. An Exported course is an integrated package (as opposed to course components) which an only be used for en toto reintegration to Bb.

  1. Copy Course
  2. To begin a course copy access Bb, enter your course and click into the Control Panel. Select the Copy Course link from the Course Options area, and click on the link illustrated to the right:

The easiest way to find the ID of the destination course is to click the browse button and enter your username. If the destination course shell has not yet been created please use the Content Transfer form (see above).

One may transfer the entire course or choose the various components one needs to have copied:

The illustration above does not represent a complete roster of course components that are eligible for transfer; anything in an origin course may be moved to a destination course.

  3. Export Course
  4. The Export Course feature creates a package of the course content that can later be imported into Blackboard Learning System and used to teach another course with the same content. It is important to note that, unlike the Archive Course feature, Export Course does not include any user interactions with the course -- it only includes the content of the Course. Therefore, Export Course is useful when course materials will be reused at a later time to teach a new set of Students. Archive Course is useful to maintain a record of a Course after it has been taught.

Export packages are downloaded as compressed .ZIP files and can be imported into Blackboard Learning System in the same format. Do not unzip an Export package or remove files from the package, otherwise the package will not be imported correctly.

Click into the course Control Panel and select Export from the Course Options area. Select from the areas you wish to export: Content, Course Settings, Discussion Board, Gradebook, Groups, and Tests/Surveys/Pools.

Click the Receipt link illustrated to the left in order to create the package to be exported

In this example the Zip file has been saved to the Temp file of the instructor's personal computer.
