Course Cartridges provide courses with rich sources of
content associated with published texts. Textbooks published by companies including
Addison Wesley, Allyn & Bacon/Longman, Harcourt, Houghton Mifflin. John Wiley,
McGraw Hill, Pearson, Prentice Hall, Thompson, and W.W. Norton are translated
into Bb-oriented content. Chapter reviews, graphics, experiments and tests are
all included for the professor's convenience.
Incorporating a course cartridge is something that must be given some thought.
Because acess to the site is passworded all students must have purchased new copies
of the accompanying textbook (why else would the textbook companies provide all
this content for "free"?!) the decision to adopt a course cartridge must take place
early enough to have placed the text order with the book store. Students who can
not find a new copy of the text -- or who can not afford it -- can not participate in the
Bb site and are put at a serious disadvantage in relation to their classmates.
- Finding a Course Cartridge
A great number of course cartridges are available from all the major
textbook publishers. The
Blackoard Corporate site includes a number or resources for locating
cartridges:
Use the links above to locate the cartridge of your choice and follow the
directions posted on each site to order the textbooks as well as the
cartridge itself.
- Loading a Course Cartridge
When the order has been made the publisher will send you the cartridge "key,"
which is really nothing more than a string of numbers. Enter the key
in the Import Course Cartridge tab of the Course Options area of the Control
Panel:
