Communication: Send Email

Blackboard can send email to all or parts of your class. Email is not used for substantive discussion, which is usually saved for Discussion Board or Collaboration (see links to the right). Rather, email comprises a good method for distributing important messages to your students.

    Send Email

Begin by getting online, accessing Bb, and entering your course. Click on the Communication button and select Send Email:

Next choose to whom you would like the email sent. You can choose to email all or part of the class, or to choose among the groups with receive email. Cluster courses can take advatange of the All Instructors option, while Boatload courses might utilize All Teaching Assistants. Using the Manage Course Menu option faculty can eliminate any of the email options listed to the left -- an instructor might select to eliminate all the email options except All Users and Select Users, for example.

Once the recipients have been selected you ae shunted to a page that asks you to enter a subject line and the text of the message yourself:

Click the Send Email to Self if you'd like to receive a copy of your message:

Include documents, graphics, and other attachments by clicking on the Add Attachments button,

then browse to and select the file to be attached.

As always, remember to click Submit in order to complete the operation
